What to do if you discover you have two patron records for the same patron including the same barcode?

  • WorldShare Circulation
Answer

This should never be possible in normal circumstances. However if you are using a double layer of LDAP authentication for your service it can be possible.

  • If you are one of these institutions, you will notice that you do not see red asterisks * informing you that certain fields are mandatory when creating a new patron
  • If this is the case, it can be easy to create a patron without a barcode too, so caution is essential
  • You will NOT get a warning when saving that the patron and barcode already exist, it will allow you to save another with the same details
  • Should this happen, delete the latest created patron. If that latest patron has loan records and/or fines, you can either wait until the loans are returned and the fines get paid or check in all the loans, waive the fines, for both patrons and delete the users taking note of the details. You can then recreate the new patron, and check out the loans again
