Release Date: December 10, 2014

Introduction

New features and enhancements

Analyzing and exporting titles

Added description of comparison to export file

For any comparison export file, you now can optionally enter a description of the comparison. The description appears in the first row(s) of the output export file. The description can be used to enter the details of any filters in place or libraries in the comparison to help the user, at a future date, understand the parameters in place when the export was created. Previously users had to rely on file names to describe the comparison.

Name export file

This feature applies to all title exports including: Comparison Title Lists, Benchmarking comparisons, Unique/Shared comparisons, and WorldCat comparisons.

Added fields to the export file

These fields were added to the export file for all title exports including: Comparison Title Lists, Benchmarking comparisons, Unique/Shared comparisons, and WorldCat comparisons:

  • Author
  • Edition
  • Genre/Form
  • ISBN
  • ISSN
  • LCCN
  • Physical Description
  • Publisher
  • Series Statement
  • URI

Charts updated to line graphs

On the Unique/Shared Title List page and the WorldCat Unique/Shared Comparisons page, the charts were changed to a line graph to better illustrate the library holdings.

On the Unique/Shared Title List page at the top of the graph, your library’s holdings are displayed for the selected subjects along with the number of subject holdings that meet selected limits.

Save Image button available to save chart as PNG file

After you create the chart on the Unique/Shared Title List page and the WorldCat Unique/Shared Comparisons page, you can click the Save Image button to save the graphic of the chart as a PNG file. After you click the button, your browser will open a dialog box that will guide you through the process of saving your graphic.

View data button added

At the bottom of the Unique/Shared Title List page and the WorldCat Unique/Shared Comparison page, click the View Data button to open a table that provides the analysis data in spreadsheet format (as opposed to displaying it as a graph). The table organizes the titles by ranges of years and lists them not only by the unique titles for your library, but also groups the titles that are shared by multiple institutions.

You can download the spreadsheet by clicking the Export Table button. After you click the button, your browser will open a dialog box that will guide you through the process of saving the table.

Preview and export options available for chart

On the Unique/Shared Title List page and the WorldCat Unique/Shared Comparison page, a drop-down menu was added that allows you to preview or export the actual data in the title list using one of these three options:

  • All selected titles
  • Unique titles
  • Shared titles

View percentage when hover over holding number in graph

On the Unique/Shared Title List page and the WorldCat Unique/Shared Comparison page, when you hover over the holding number in the line graph, a title count will pop up and display the percentage of libraries that hold these titles.

Link to WorldCat from the export file

Collection Evaluation comparison title list exports now have a hyperlink in the OCLC # column in the file. You can click this link to easily view the WorldCat record for the given title.

This feature applies to the following title exports: Comparison Title Lists, Benchmarking comparisons, Unique/Shared comparisons, and WorldCat comparisons.

Managing comparisons

Updated controls to add new institutions

On the Manage Comparisons page you can now add institutions to a new comparison by selecting one or more institutions from the available groups list on the left and clicking the right arrow to add them to list of selected groups for the comparison. You can click the left arrow to remove an institution from a comparison before it is created. This functionality is similar to selecting subjects on the comparison pages.
