Release Date: March 11, 2018
This release of WorldShare Management Services provides several new features in addition to numerous bug fixes. The new features are the direct result of user feedback.
For this release, we recommend that you review the following checklists and complete the relevant tasks so that you can adjust your policies and workflows and train your staff. These checklists identify updates that we have determined to be significant for most institutions. We encourage you to review all the items in the release notes to determine whether there are other items that might require additional action or follow up by your institution.
These items require immediate action or decisions.
Determine if your library will allow patrons to receive Circulation notifications and receipts at a patron-supplied email address. Update relevant Patron Type Policies.
Send circulation notices to a patron-supplied email address
WorldCat Discovery will soon allow patrons to provide a self-managed email address, separate from the email addresses maintained by your library or institution. If your library uses Tipasa, your patrons may already have self-managed email addresses on record.
Your library can control if circulation notifications and emailed receipts are sent to the patron-supplied email address using a new setting in the Patron Type Policy. By default, this feature will be set to 'No.'
When the feature is turned on, circulation will first attempt to send emails to the patron-supplied email address. If none is found, the system will use an institution-supplied email address. If the patron record has no email addresses, the system will generate a print notification.
Support for non-Latin bibliographic data
Non-Latin bibliographic data stored in WorldCat 880 fields will now display in WorldShare Circulation at checkout, check in, etc. as well as in receipts and notifications.
As of this release, 880 data from the WorldCat record will be visible after any barcoded item record related to that OCLC Number is created or edited by any institution in your data center. The remaining impacted records will be updated on your library's behalf in the coming weeks.
Support for item barcodes beginning with B or U
Items with barcodes beginning with B or U can now be searched, edited, placed on hold, checked out, checked in, etc. Availability information will display in WorldCat Discovery and other applications.
Prior to this release, attempting most circulation activities for these items would result in an error message.
